    The way this game works is that it will only allow the racer to "touch" parts of the track based on checkpoints, and there's quite a lot of them. If the player skips a check point, the next part of the track won't work for him, leading to an untimely crash.

    This was most likely done to prevent track skipping like in Mario Kart 64.

    1:23 seemed unfair.

    i mean, of course not in comparison to the other players since they have to deal with the same sh't, but unfair from the game to just let you fall through the solid floor because the game decided you're SUPPOSED TO DIE once you dare getting too far off course, even if you end up on the damn center of the road again.
