(Minghui.org) The Linghai City Court in Liaoning Province, sentenced a 65-year-old local woman to five and a half years and fined her 10,000 yuan on December 4, 2025 because she practices Falun Gong.
The verdict against Ms. Fu Wenjie bore the signatures of presiding judge Du Wenfang, judges Hua Li and Liu Lina, assistant Gao Tianyi, and clerk Shi Tie.
Ms. Fu, born in December 1960, credits Falun Gong for restoring her health and guiding her to become a kinder and more considerate person. Her illegal conviction stemmed from a police sweep on June 2-3, 2025 that resulted in the arrests of her and at least 35 other local Falun Gong practitioners.
The mass arrest was ordered by the Liaoning Provincial Public Security Bureau. The police used various surveillance methods, such as installing location tracking devices on the practitioners’ private cars and electric bikes or following them to monitor their daily activities, before conducting the arrests.
Ms. Fu’s Arrest
Ms. Fu’s husband returned home from work at 4:40 p.m. on June 2, 2025. As soon as he opened the door, more than twenty plainclothes officers who had been hiding in the stairway broke in. One of them flashed a “search warrant” and some showed their police IDs.
A female officer restrained Ms. Fu and a male officer held her husband. The other police raided the couple’s home. After that, they brought Ms. Fu to search her garage and shed. Her computer, Falun Gong books, and portrait of Falun Gong’s founder were confiscated.
Ms. Fu was interrogated at a police station before she was taken to the Jinzhou Third Hospital for a physical exam the next day. She was then sent to the Jinzhou City Women’s Detention Center. Jinzhou oversees Linghai City.
Indicted and Sentenced
The Shishan Police Station notified Ms. Fu’s husband in early July 2025 that his wife had been issued a formal arrest warrant by prosecutors Zhang Jinxu and Li Tianyu (+86-416-8107161) from the Linghai City Procuratorate.
Four officers went to the detention center on the morning of August 1, 2025 and took her back to Linghai City for interrogation. They questioned her and asked if she put up Falun Gong posters somewhere and she said no. They sent her back to the detention center and submitted her case to the procuratorate on August 8.
Ms. Fu’s lawyer went to the procuratorate on August 14 to review her case file and learned that the case had been forwarded to the Linghai City Court. He hurried to the court and was told that the case had not been docketed yet so he could not review the case file.
The lawyer visited Ms. Fu that afternoon and she signed a request for the procuratorate to drop the indictment against her and a request for the court to present legal basis to justify its prosecution of her.
The trial of Ms. Fu was initially scheduled to take place at the detention center but she received notice on November 7 that the location had been changed to the Linghai City Court. She stood trial on November 10 and the details of her hearing remain to be investigated. A guilty verdict was issued on December 4.
